Probiotics For Your Pets

We all know that probiotics are used in humans for good digestive purposes but did you also know that they are used in animals too? Similar to humans, animals too have an immune system that is in their gut. While as humans we may control the quantity of food and what we eat, it is difficult for dogs to do so. They almost end up eating everything they see. Therefore, keeping your dogs gut clean is important for them to live a happy and healthy life.

The use of probiotics in animals is similar to probiotic uses in humans. Usually, dogs, in general, have bowel problems due to stress, new environments, or kenneling that causes great stress in dogs. These issues are why dogs suffer from diarrhoea among the usual. But purchasing probiotics for dogs needs to be different. Probiotics for pets are generally formulated differently from human probiotics. Though this is true, some human probiotics are completely safe for animals though the dosage varies. Animal health products can be found in various pet stores as per the doctor's prescription. Probiotics in dogs are beneficial for:

  1. Irritable bowel syndrome
  2. Diarrhoea
  3. Overall digestion
  4. Regulation of appetite and weight
  5. Immune system strengthening
  6. Prevention of Urinary tract infections
  7. Regulation of allergies

According to research, Lactobacillus is the probiotic found in canine products helps them keep their digestion in check and helps them in absorbing the necessary minerals from foods. There has been enough research done in the field of probiotics and its uses in dogs that makes it safe to say that if you are a dog lover then you need to know these probiotics to keep your dog healthy. Another probiotic strain that helps with pets is the Bacillus Clausii. Similar to the Lactobacillus strain these also survive high temperature and show high levels of stability. They offer resistance to common antibiotics and help prevent diarrhoea caused due to that.

Finally, finding a good probiotic for your dog can be tricky. Every dog is different and just like humans the same probiotic may not work for the same dogs. But like human probiotics, animal probiotics too need to survive the process of manufacturing and processing through dog food. Once the strains of probiotics survive this process it becomes safe to use on your pets. In giving your dog probiotics do not forget to see the number of bacteria that go into their systems with a spoon. Consult your vet and buy the right kind of probiotic for your dog.
